Variety in Evolution: Bison, Asses, Sheep, Albatrosses, Porpoises - Where Will It End?
The 2021 Dolphin Discovery Trail, a charity event that featured 62 sponsored and decorated dolphin statues on display across Guernsey and Herm, has raised a significant amount for two local organisations - the Guernsey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (GSPCA) and Autism Guernsey.
According to the organisers, the event managed to raise an impressive total of over £80,000. This generous contribution will be split equally between the two organisations, with each set to receive more than £40,000.
The GSPCA, known for their ongoing efforts including the GSPCA Biggest Build and their 24/7 work for animals and the community, expressed their gratitude for the event's success. Steve Byrne, from the GSPCA, appreciated the generosity and enthusiasm of everyone involved. The organisation also acknowledged the Peninsula Hotel, Artex, Guernsey Freemasons, and others for their contributions to the auction night. Interested parties can contact Steve Byrne at [email protected] for future events.
Autism Guernsey, who will also benefit from the funds, stated that the contribution will significantly impact their services. The organisation thanked Bailiwick Express for their assistance with the website and promotion. Andrew Sparks, Director of Autism Guernsey, expressed his gratitude for the event's success.
The 2021 Dolphin Discovery Trail was supported by All Island Media, which owns Bailiwick Express. The event was not just a one-time occurrence, as both organisations are already looking forward to future events and trails. In fact, the organisers are considering a Christmas theme for a future event in 2026.
The GSPCA and Autism Guernsey worked together on the 2021 Dolphin Discovery Trail, marking a collaborative effort that has brought positive changes for both organisations. Other events that the GSPCA has benefited from include the 2021 Golden Goat Trail, the 2023 Puffin Parade, and the 2025 Dolphin Discovery Trail.
As the funds are distributed and the organisations continue their valuable work, the community can look forward to the positive impact these funds will have on both the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey.
