Urge to all the Lords' Residents!
In the heart of Oberhausen, Germany, a significant event is set to take place this May, aiming to remember all population groups persecuted, oppressed, and murdered by the National Socialists. The event, known as the "Stumbling Stone Cleaning Action and Event Conclusion," is a poignant tribute to the victims of the Holocaust and other Nazi atrocities.
The Stumbling Stone Cleaning Action, hosted by the Memorial Hall in Oberhausen, will take place from April 28 to May 10, 2025. During this time, approximately 340 Stumbling Stones (Stolpersteine) in the Oberhausen city area will be meticulously cleaned by volunteers from various groups, including local residents, school groups, and historical societies.
These Stumbling Stones, created by German artist Gunter Demnig, serve as a powerful reminder of the victims of the Holocaust. Each stone bears the name of a victim, their last known address, and the dates of their deportation and death. Cleaning these stones is a symbolic act of respect and remembrance.
The event conclusion will take place at the "Empty Space" of kitev, located at Willy-Brandt-Platz 1 in Oberhausen's main station, on May 10, 2025, at 1 PM. Light refreshments and drinks will be provided during the event conclusion. The event is open to individuals, school classes, clubs, communities, political parties, and initiatives.
The event conclusion will feature a screening of a film showing the first Stumbling Stone laying in Oberhausen from 2008, as well as photos taken during the Stumbling Stone cleaning action. A list of all Stumbling Stones can be found online for those who wish to learn more about the victims honoured by these stones.
