Urban Farm-Produce unveils lion's mane steaks as whole-food trend surges in UK
Urban Farm-Produce has launched a new line of lion's mane mushroom products called Prepared Mane. The range arrives as demand for whole foods grows and interest in ultra-processed alternatives declines across the UK. These minimally processed options aim to fill a gap in the meat-free market with simple, fibre-rich ingredients.
The Prepared Mane collection includes unsmoked and smoked lion's mane steaks, along with a customisable mince made from lion's mane and chestnut mushrooms. Each product is designed to be ready-to-cook, offering a whole-food alternative to traditional plant-based meats. Lion's mane mushrooms are already known for their functional benefits, such as supporting brain and digestive health.
The launch aligns with a broader shift in the UK's plant-based sector. In 2025, the category returned to growth, with vegan mince and plant proteins seeing rising sales. Over the past two years, at least five other companies have introduced similar whole-food alternatives, including Moving Mountains' fibre-rich kofta, Quorn's fermented mycoprotein fillets, and This's whole-cut steak made from oats.
Urban Farm-Produce's products also address a common dietary shortfall by providing high levels of fibre. Founder and CEO Elliot Webb has emphasised the brand's focus on clean, recognisable ingredients. The new line joins other minimally processed options, such as Symplicity Foods' fermented vegetable meats and Juicy Marbles' Umami Burger.
Prepared Mane enters a market where consumers increasingly favour whole-food, minimally processed alternatives. The range adds to a growing selection of plant-based products that prioritise fibre and functional benefits. Urban Farm-Produce's focus on simplicity and nutrition reflects wider trends in the UK's evolving meat-free category.
