UK's £7m green spaces fund aims to bring nature within 15 minutes of every home

The government has launched a new £7 million fund to improve green spaces across the UK. The Community Green Spaces Fund will support local projects aimed at boosting access to nature, health, and environmental goals. An extra £5 million has also been set aside for upgrades to village halls.

The fund's main goal is to ensure everyone lives within a 15-minute walk of a green space. This target aligns with the government's Environment Improvement Plan. Grants of up to £75,000 will be available for planting fruit, vegetables, and trees, as well as creating orchards and kitchen gardens.

Money will also go towards landscaping, better access to green areas, and new disabled parking spaces. The scheme supports projects that help reach Net Zero targets and improve biodiversity. Local health and wellbeing are expected to benefit from the improvements. As of March 12, 2026, no official figures have been released on how many councils or groups have applied for or received funding.

The Community Green Spaces Fund will provide financial backing for projects that expand green areas and improve public access. Alongside the £5 million for village halls, the funding aims to deliver lasting benefits for communities and the environment. Further details on successful applications are expected in due course.
