UK Government Invests £13.8m to Transform Northern Ireland's Green Spaces

The UK government is investing around £13.8m from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to improve green spaces and community facilities across Northern Ireland over the next two years. This funding will support councils and their local partners in delivering projects that visibly enhance areas for everyone.

More than £1.3m has been allocated to local authorities to fund 26 projects. These include tree planting initiatives, the creation of new cycle paths, and the development of children's play parks. Notably, a new King's Garden will be developed in Newtownabbey to mark the coronation of King Charles. Every council in Northern Ireland is set to receive funding to enhance green spaces, with projects expected to start in 2023 and continue into 2024.

This investment is part of a larger £292 million UKSPF initiative aimed at enhancing neighborhoods across Scotland and Northern Ireland. The funding allows councils to progress with their plans to 'level up' and unlock additional investment in local green spaces.
