"Celebrate the 200th Anniversary of Berlin's Museum Island this Weekend with the Island Festival
Berlin, Germany - This weekend (June 1st), the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK) invites the public to the Museum Island 200th Anniversary Island Festival. The celebration takes place from May 30th to June 1st and offers a unique opportunity to explore the historic ensemble.
The Island Festival features a variety of activities, including free guided tours, workshops, and surprise offers, offering insights into the history, architecture, and collections of Museum Island. An open-air stage in the colonnade courtyard between the New Museum and the Old National Gallery will host performances by renowned Berlin cultural institutions. A new ZDF/arte documentary about Museum Island will have its world premiere during the festival.
The festival marks the start of a five-year program by the SPK to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Museum Island. This program includes various special exhibitions.
The UNESCO World Heritage Day Ceremony will be held on Sunday, 1 June 2025 at 11 am. Regular day tickets, priced at 14 euros (reduced 7 euros), will grant access to all six museums during the festival weekend (Altes Museum, Neues Museum, Alte Nationalgalerie, Bode-Museum, Pergamon Museum, and James-Simon-Galerie). Children and young people under 18 will receive free admission, as well as annual pass holders who can bring an additional person for free. The outdoor areas of the festival are freely accessible to all.
