Transform domestic spaces into native habitats
The Sheridan Community Land Trust (SCLT) is inviting everyone to attend its upcoming Discovery Session titled "Nativescapes for Your Home." This informative event, taking place on Thursday, July 24, at 6 p.m., will be held in the SCLT Community Rooms, located at 14 Lane Ln. in Sheridan.
This one-and-a-half-hour session is free and open to all, regardless of dress code. Registration can be completed by clicking the provided link. The experts from Piney Island Native Plants and Piney Island Conservation Services will be present, sharing tips and practical guidance on designing and maintaining a low-maintenance yard that supports local wildlife and conserves water.
The focus of the Discovery Session is to teach participants how to create native Wyoming landscapes around their homes. By selecting appropriate native plants, layering vegetation, employing suitable soil and planting techniques, and considering watering needs, you can emulate the Cowboy State's unique landscapes in your own garden.
Some examples of native Wyoming plants include shrubs like the Utah Snowberry (*Symphiocarpus oreophilus*) and Antelopebrush (*Purshia tridentata*), as well as perennials such as Sulphur Buckwheat, Sticky Geranium, Lupines, Scarlet Gilia, and Nine-leaf Biscuitroot (*Lomatium simplex*).
The Discovery Session is not a recurring event, so be sure not to miss this opportunity to learn from the experts. The session does not offer any specific certification or qualification but promises to provide techniques for a more sustainable and wildlife-friendly garden.
So, if you're ready to transform your yard into a native Wyoming landscape, mark your calendars for the SCLT Discovery Session. Join us in our mission to create a greener, more sustainable Sheridan!
