The event kicks off with Mill Day, an initiative spearheaded by the German Society for Mill Studies and Preservation. This announcement was made by the Landscape Association Rhineland (LVR) based in Cologne. "Many locals have seen their local mills still grinding grain in their lives," said Mill Day coordinator, Julia König, of the LVR.

Remarkably, North Rhine-Westphalia was once swarming with mills, producing everything from ground grain to paper, sawn wood, and processed rags.
