In a recent meeting at the Agricultural Education Center (LBZ) Hochburg in Emmendingen, State Parliament Member Rüdiger Tonojan (Greens) discussed the future of the Bio-Musterregion Freiburg with Dr. Schreiner, head of the Rural Area department at the Landratsamt, and Regional Manager of the Bio-Musterregion, Mrs. Leister.

The discussion centred around the concerns raised by Dr. Schreiner about the underfunding of private forestry consulting. Tonojan pledged to support the interests of the Bio-Musterregion and strengthen agriculture and forestry in the Stuttgart district.

One topic that received special attention during the meeting was the "Bio-Päckle" gift package developed by the Bio-Musterregion. Tonojan commended the work of the Bio-Musterregion as a crucial connection between producers, trade, and consumers, and praised the initiative as a creative way to promote regional products.

Dr. Schreiner suggested an "ELR trip" to showcase successful projects of the Rural Area Development Program. This proposal aims to provide a practical understanding of the impact the program has on the region.

The LBZ Hochburg, the oldest agricultural training facility in Baden, will celebrate its 180th anniversary next year. In addition, LBZ has been designated as one of three focus vocational schools for full-time training as part of a statewide realignment.

The Bio-Musterregion's goals, such as increasing the use of regional organic food, promoting fungal-resistant grape varieties, supporting businesses in transition, and creating a regional purchasing guide, were not explicitly discussed during the meeting. However, Tonojan's commitment to the Bio-Musterregion indicates a shared vision for a sustainable and thriving rural economy.

The work of the Bio-Musterregion Freiburg will be funded again for three years in October, ensuring the continuation of its efforts to support local agriculture and foster connections between producers and consumers.

  1. In light of Tonojan's commitment to the Bio-Musterregion, there could be potential collaborations to boost the lifestyle sector, such as promoting home-and-garden practices that use regional products.
  2. To encourage a sustainable lifestyle, an idea could be to showcase successful rural development projects as part of the ELR trip, demonstrating the impact of such initiatives on local home-and-garden practices and beyond.
