TIBO the Waste Mascot Teaches Kids Sustainability at Daycare

Luitpold Daycare recently welcomed TIBO, the organic waste bin mascot of EVS, as part of their ongoing STEM project. The visit gave children a hands-on way to learn about waste separation and sustainability. For months, they had been studying waste and recycling—now, TIBO brought those lessons to life in an engaging session. During the visit, TIBO helped the children understand which waste belongs in the organic bin. They discovered why organic waste is valuable, learning it can be turned into energy and compost. The session also focused on language development, with the children picking up new vocabulary and sharing ideas about sustainability.

Alisha Loew, the daycare's language specialist, highlighted how such projects create natural opportunities for learning. Director Selina Vogler added that the STEM project works best when children can explore and ask questions. The children themselves saw TIBO's visit as a major highlight of their project. The next day, the daycare took part in Saarland's *picobello* campaign. They cleaned up Gustav-Clauss Park, putting their new knowledge into action while reinforcing the importance of environmental protection.

The visit left a strong impression on the children, combining science, language, and practical experience. By turning lessons into real-world action, the daycare's STEM project continues to grow. The clean-up campaign showed how small steps can make a difference in caring for the environment.
