Green Party wants to save Thuringian repair bonus with petition - Thuringia’s Beloved Repair Voucher Scheme Faces Ax by 2026
Thuringia’s popular repair voucher scheme is facing cancellation by 2026. Introduced in 2021, the programme offers residents up to €100 a year to fix broken electrical devices. Now, budget cuts threaten its future—despite strong public support and environmental benefits.
The scheme was launched under the red-red-green coalition to cut electronic waste. Since 2021, it has helped repair 50,000 devices and stopped over 100 tons of e-waste annually. Funding comes from state resources, making repairs more affordable for households.
Without the repair vouchers, residents will pay more to fix appliances or replace them outright. The programme’s removal would also undo years of progress in waste reduction. The petition’s outcome will decide whether the scheme survives beyond its planned end date.
