Gala Event Marking Documenta's 70th Anniversary - The 70-year milestone of the documenta art exhibition
Get your art-loving feet ready because documenta is turning 70! On June 7th, 2025, we're throwing a grand fiesta to honor seven decades of art and societal engagements. The party's starting at 6:00 PM sharp at the documenta Hall.
Our speaker lineup includes the supervisory board chairman of documenta gGmbH, Kassel's green-eyed Lord Mayor, Sven Schoeller, and his faithful sidekick, Hesse's Minister of Culture, Timon Gremmels (SPD). Followed by a lively panel discussion on "70 Years of documenta in Kassel: The documenta Past, Present, and Future," featuring former and current artistic directors.
But wait, there's more! We've got artist Cosima von Bonin's artwork "7000 Palms" exclusively for this special occasion! The city-wide art project invites every resident of Kassel to join in decorating the city with flag strings in the shape of palm trees.
Originally founded by Arnold Bode on July 15, 1955, in Kassel, documenta takes place every five years and lasts 100 days each time. The 16th edition, documenta 16, is planned for the period from June 12 to September 19, 2027. Curated by the American Naomi Beckwith, the deputy director and chief curator of the New York Guggenheim Museum, it'll be a spectacle worth waiting for. 🎨🎉
