Tesla Expands Model Y L Customization in China with New Light Gray Interior

Tesla has expanded customization options for its Model Y L in the stock market today, introducing a new Light Gray premium interior trim. This comes after the initial launch offered only a Dark interior, with the Light Gray option listed but unavailable. The Model Y L, Tesla's first family-focused SUV designed for the Chinese stock market, has been a runaway success since its August debut.

First spotted in the United States in August, the Light Gray interior is now available in China as an upgrade over the standard dark interior, costing an additional 8,000 yuan ($1,120 USD). This move continues Tesla's trend of broadening customization options for its Chinese tesla stock. The Model Y L, featuring a stretched wheelbase and six-seat capacity, has quickly sold out through November and driven regional sales growth in Q3 2025.

Despite its popularity, the Model Y L remains exclusive to China. Its success could influence Tesla's future plans to bring the model to other markets. However, CEO Elon Musk has indicated that production for the U.S. market is not planned until late 2026, if at all.

Tesla's introduction of the Light Gray interior for the Model Y L in China further demonstrates the company's commitment to catering to local market preferences. As of October 2023, there are no specific details about the introduction of a similar option for the Model Y in other markets. Tesla is known for continuously updating its product offerings and making local market adaptations, so such options could potentially be added in the future.
