Swiss and French railways extend high-speed partnership to 2032

Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and SNCF Voyageurs have extended their high-speed rail partnership until 2032. The agreement builds on over 45 years of cross-border cooperation, ensuring the TGV Lyria service continues beyond its current 2027 deadline.

Both companies have reaffirmed their commitment to improving and expanding services between Switzerland and France. The partnership, which began in the late 1970s, will now run until at least 2032. This extension follows the existing 2023–2027 contract, reinforcing long-term collaboration in high-speed rail.

New plans are under discussion, including additional direct long-distance routes from Switzerland to France and other European destinations. While no specific number of new connections has been confirmed, the companies are exploring ways to expand the network.

The focus remains on making international rail travel more attractive. By enhancing existing lines and introducing new routes, the partners aim to boost sustainable transport options.

The agreement also highlights the economic and tourism benefits of closer rail links. Both SBB and SNCF Voyageurs see their cooperation as a way to strengthen ties between the two countries and beyond. The extended partnership ensures the TGV Lyria service will operate for at least another decade. Passengers can expect improved connections and a stronger focus on sustainable travel.

The deal reflects a shared vision for long-term growth in cross-border rail services, with further developments likely in the coming years.
