Sustainable and Efficient Abode by VAB: A Look Ahead

In the heart of Dülken, a transformative project is underway. The city's renowned institution, VAB, is constructing a substantial residential quarter at Melcherstiege, near the historic city centre. This development will house over 70 new apartments, as announced by Sillekens, with residents expected to move in come November.

The new apartments, located at Melcherstiege, are a significant step towards offering affordable and sustainable housing, a goal that Becker emphasises has been progressing significantly, especially in these challenging times. The project follows the principles of the circular economy in many aspects, with a focus on sustainability and social diversity.

The construction process incorporates various eco-friendly measures. For instance, more wood will be used to increase the project's sustainability. An innovative infrared heating system has been implemented, and tenant electricity will be sourced through solar panels. Reusable materials and reduced or free building materials are also being utilised.

In addition to the new apartments, the development will provide 19 publicly funded apartments and a new home for the Dülken office. The extensive package of sustainable construction harmoniously blends into Dülkener's old town, eliminating a long-standing urban eyesore at the junction of Lange Straße and Melcherstiege.

A platform lift, instead of a cabin lift, has been installed, and shell construction, rather than composite construction, is being employed. The total investment for this large-scale project is in the two-digit million range, a testament to VAB's commitment to this initiative.

Interestingly, the project does not explicitly mention the use of a specific lift system or the implementation of solar panels, which were previously mentioned. However, the focus remains on affordability, sustainability, and efficiency, as VAB continues to prioritise these values in its construction projects.

This development marks an exciting chapter in Dülken's urban renewal, offering a blend of modern living and historical charm, all while promoting sustainability and social diversity. The anticipation builds as the move-in date approaches, and the community looks forward to welcoming the new residents in November.
