Sunday's ambiance prevailing all week long

In the picturesque village of Eastman, a chance discovery led to a life-changing decision for the couple, Nicole Riopel and Yves Poirier. Having sold their home decor import business, they embarked on a new chapter, building their dream home.

Their new abode, named "Un dimanche à la campagne," is a single-story Scandinavian-style house, with a pulsating heart consisting of the kitchen, living room, and dining room. The home boasts two wings: one houses the master suite, an office, and a relaxation space, while the other offers a guest room and a second bathroom.

Construction began in January 2020 and was completed before the pandemic lockdown. Remarkably, the couple managed the project from excavation to finishing, except for the shell and interior divisions. The exterior and interior of the home exude beauty, authenticity, and a worked aspect, with large stones set aside during excavation used for landscaping, contrasting beautifully with the planted perennials and moss.

The home's location offers a serene setting, with the sound of water and birdsong providing a soothing accompaniment. The stream's edge is one of their favourite spots. The property spans over 2.4 acres of a delicately tamed forest, with Nicole Riopel leading visitors over a bridge that spans the wetlands.

Nicole Riopel has taken up baking, making everything from burger buns to ice cream, and has not bought bread for five years. Yves Poirier, on the other hand, has published two novels in two years, titled "The Profiler" and "The Screenwriter."

The couple's new home has brought them a newfound appreciation for their surroundings, finding it deeply satisfying and nourishing. They express regret for not having undertaken a project like their home in Eastman before. The home serves as a springboard for living better together and keeping wonder alive.
