World Nature Photography Awards 2021 Announce Winners

The World Nature Photography Awards have announced their winners for this year, recognising exceptional talent in capturing the beauty and diversity of the natural world.

The overall winner of the competition is Amos Nachoum from the United States, who won the top cash prize of $1,000 for his photograph of a leopard seal about to capture a gentoo penguin[1]. This dramatic moment was captured in the image titled "Run - Overall winner."

In addition to Nachoum, there were 13 photographers who won gold awards in various categories of the 2021 contest. For example, Federico Testi from Italy won gold in "Nature Art," Sabrina Inderbitzi from Switzerland in "People and Nature," Gautam Kamat Bambolkar from India in "Plants and Fungi," and Matthijs Noome from the USA in "Urban Wildlife."

The competition received entries from 20 countries across 6 continents, showcasing exceptional dedication to nature photography as well as a commitment to environmental awareness[1].

Other standout shots include a stunning image of birds battling in mid-air, depicted in the image titled "Might as well jump." Another winning image is of the Grand Prismatic Spring, while the top prize was won by a Slovenian photographer Maruša Puhek for an aerial photo of two deer running through a snow-covered vineyard, titled "Daisy daisy."

A robber fly with a gift, a tranquil scene titled "Rest easy," and a five-star meal are among the other winning images. The image titled "A sword in the chest" depicts a sword, while "Twilight" and "Enchanted duo" are also winners from this year's competition.

The image of a kingfisher on ice and a polar retriever are also among the winning photographs, adding to the diverse range of subjects captured in the competition. Fireworks are featured in one of the winning images, while another image is about fueling resilience.

Iceland is experiencing a new surge of volcanic activity, but the beauty of nature continues to be captured and celebrated through the World Nature Photography Awards.
