Struggling Frankish shopping mall: Over forty percent of establishments remain vacant

The bustling Stadtgalerie Schweinfurt invited visitors to a jam-packed night of shopping and merriment this past Friday (June 30, 2025), offering complimentary champagne, upbeat tunes, and even face painting for the little ones. However, the shopping center has seen its fair share of withdrawals from major chains like McDonald's, dm, and a popular fashion store earlier this year[1]. With a gap of approximately 40 stores out of 90 still empty as of late May[1][5], you might wonder, what's left in the Stadtgalerie to explore?

inFranken.de first broke the news about these closures in February. At the same time, center manager Alexander Kuckshaus spoke about the future of the shopping center[5]. Despite the exit of a well-known fashion chain and Immergrün, Kuckshaus expressed optimism about the situation. He mentioned there was still a chance that another operator could take over Immergrün’s business[5]. As of the interview on May 28[5], the lease for Immergrün's location remained active, albeit with the final decision still pending.

Fast forward to June, Kuckshaus confirmed that the situation in the Stadtgalerie Schweinfurt remains much the same. Approximately 50 shops are still in operation, leaving 40 vacant spots[5]. Despite the gaps, the center's management is actively collaborating with the owner, city, and rental partners to create a comprehensive strategy for the future[5]. Kuckshaus hinted at various interested parties, but any further details are currently under wraps[5].

Among the current stores still operating within the center, brands such as mister*lady and Rituals are showcasing their latest collections[1][5]. To attract foot traffic and maintain customer interest, special events like the recent Late Night Shopping, Midseason Sales, Rituals Eau de Parfum Promotion, and new summer collections are being offered[1][5].

Looking toward the future, the center’s management is hard at work redeveloping strategies to capture new tenants and inject excitement into the shopping experience[5][3]. Although specifics about these plans have not yet materialized, the Stadtgalerie Schweinfurt remains steadfast in its efforts to reinvent itself as a lively shopping destination.

  • Shoppers at the Stadtgalerie Schweinfurt can still find deals and discounts on lifestyle products, as brands such as mister*lady and Rituals continue to operate, showcasing their latest home-and-garden and fashion collections.
  • Amidst the vacant stores, the center's management is actively working to create a revitalized shopping experience, collaborating with the owner, city, and rental partners to attract new tenants and reinvent the shopping center as a lively lifestyle and home-and-garden destination.
