Spring Greenhouse Preparation: Expert Soil Disinfection Tips for Optimal Growth

Spring is here, and it's time to prepare our greenhouses for a productive growing season. Experts recommend a thorough soil preparation and disinfection process to ensure optimal plant growth and yield.

Start by watering the soil thoroughly. After a day, use a spade to turn it over deeply, incorporating sand and mature compost. This enriches the soil with oxygen, destroys pests, and fungal spores. Cover the prepared soil with mulch or suitable materials to suppress weeds and stabilize conditions.

For added protection, apply a heated manganese dioxide solution at 40 degrees Celsius. This reduces harmful microorganisms and improves soil condition. Additionally, clean the greenhouse walls, frame, and surfaces with a homemade soap solution to remove dust, oily deposits, and some disease spores.

In autumn, remove all plant residues to eliminate hiding places for harmful microbes and insect larvae. Disinfect the surfaces with a copper sulfate solution (200 grams per 10 liters of water) to fight fungi and bacteria. Cover the soil with transparent plastic to enhance the effect through the greenhouse effect.

Before spring planting, consider soil disinfection with a 2% copper sulfate solution or Bordeaux mixture. This helps fight fungal diseases and prepares the soil for planting.

Autumn tasks in the greenhouse significantly impact the ease and success of plant growth in the spring and the yield of the harvest. By following these steps, gardeners can ensure a healthy and productive greenhouse environment for the coming season.
