Spring Care for German Roses: Timely Steps for Beautiful Blooms

Spring is here, and it's time to care for our rose bushes. Gardeners in Germany should follow these steps to ensure their roses bloom beautifully this season.

First, wait for the soil to thaw to a depth of at least 30-40 centimeters. Then, in early May for the north and Siberia, mid-April for the central belt, and late March for the south, uncover your roses. Before doing so, perform sanitary pruning to remove rotted, darkened, or weakened shoots and old leaves.

Once uncovered, trim strong young shoots by one-third to two-thirds of their length. This encourages a compact shape and even growth. Apply a 1% Bordeaux mixture solution thoroughly, focusing on the base of the bush, the graft site, and the soil around the roses. This protects against fungal and bacterial diseases and is safe for young shoots.

To prevent rot and sudden temperature swings, ensure timely air circulation and gradual removal of coverings.

Roses require special attention in spring to ensure their health and beauty. By following these steps, gardeners can prepare their roses for the new season and protect them from diseases like snow mold and infectious blight. Timely care will result in a flourishing rose garden.
