Thrilling Night's Tale in Spreewald Kicks Off at Bismarckturm

Enchanting Fairy Tale Evening Kicks Off in Burg's Spree Forest - Spreewald's Iconic Night Unfolds in Burg

You'd think that a bit of rain wouldn't stop a good story from being told, and it seems that was the case with the recent kickoff of this year's Spreewald Fairy Tale Night. Organizers reported a successful debut, swarmed by around 1,500 keen visitors amidst the scenic Bismarckturm in Burg (Spreewald).

Luck was on their side as the weather cooperated during the grand performance, despite some gloomy predictions beforehand. The rain hadn't any dampening effect on the spirits of the spectators.

Going by reports from the German Press Agency, ticket sales were a tad slow initially due to the ominous weather forecasts. But as they say, fortune favors the bold, and the show must go on.

Every year, the Spreewald Fairy Tale Night unfolds on the open-air stage at the Bismarckturm during Pfingsten. Last year's premier was cut short by a deluge, but this year, in defiance of the elements, it ran its course.

The gripping play, "The Stolen Treasure or How the Potato Came to the Spreewald," brings to life Pawlina, daughter of an innkeeper from Burg, and her fantastical quest to meet the Snake King. Along the way, she encounters a host of well-known Sorbian fairy tale characters, entwining local folklore in an enchanting adventure.

Staged by members of the Sorbian National Ensemble, the play elicited thunderous applause from the triumphant audience. Further performances are lined up for Sunday and Monday. With the initial success, we can only expect equally cheerful performances throughout the weekend. The night ended with a spectacular fireworks display.
