Sparkling Start of the Year: Casting Action at the German Palace and Lock Museum

A special tin-casting event will take place on January 6 at the Deutsches Schlüssel- und Heimwerkmuseum in Velbert-Langenberg. Visitors of all ages can craft their own tin keys and keepsakes, offering a safer and eco-friendly twist on the old New Year’s Eve tradition of lead pouring. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free to attend.

The German Palace and Lock Museum has organised this outdoor activity as an alternative to lead casting. Instead of using toxic lead, participants will melt and shape tin into unique souvenirs to take home. No prior registration is needed, and the event welcomes everyone.

Attendees should dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes, as the workshop will be held outside. The museum aims to keep the tradition alive while making it safer for families and the environment.

The tin-casting event offers a hands-on experience for visitors on January 6. Free admission and no booking requirements make it easy for anyone to join. The museum’s initiative replaces lead with tin, ensuring a greener and healthier way to celebrate the new year.
