Sorbian National Ensemble Heads to Unexplored Territory - Sorbian National Group Prepares to Venture into Uncharted Realm

The Sorbisches National-Ensemble (SNE) is set to embark on a new season themed "New Land", promising an exciting exploration of new artistic ground. This season will feature a major music theatre production titled "Neuland" (New Land), which includes two world premieres and is a key highlight of the season [1][3].

Tomas Kreibich-Nawka will oversee the overall direction of "New Land", while Maria Chagina will direct the production [3]. The productions will merge genres and cultures, and explore new horizons [3].

In addition to "New Land", the SNE's season will be filled with various theatrical and cultural events in Bautzen. The Ensemble will participate in live music, dance, theater, and cultural presentations at historic locations such as the Hauptmarkt, Mönchskirche, Wasserturm, Burghof, and the Wendischer Kirchhof [2]. These events will include medieval-themed market activities, traditional crafts, and historical music [2].

For families, there's much to look forward to. A children's program is planned, and a family afternoon celebrating the 50th anniversary of the comic heroes Abrafaxe from the magazine "Mosaik" is scheduled [4]. A colourful puppet, music, and dance show titled "Der fabelhafte Garten des Fusselkopf Senfkorn" suitable for children aged 4 and above is set for 31 August 2025 [2]. Another puppet play, "Im Land der Dämmerung" by Astrid Lindgren, is scheduled for 21 September 2025 [2].

The season will also showcase the richness of Sorbian culture and tradition. "Ptačk architektki" ("The Bird of the Architect") by Sorbian poet Róža Domašcyna will be performed as part of "New Land" [1]. The choir and orchestra of the SNE, along with MerQury, will pay tribute to rock musician Freddie Mercury on August 21 [3].

The music theater production "New Land" will be presented starting October 4 [1]. The SNE aims to make its stage a place of artistic diversity and encounter [1]. The ballet of the SNE and the dance company of the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater Görlitz-Zittau will create the dance project "Between Us" (premiere: April 29, 2026) [3].

The SNE will also participate in the "Spreewald Fairy Tale Night 2026" with the piece "Müschen impossible" [4]. A Christmas fairy tale is planned for the season [4]. On August 30, Gerhard "Gundi" Gundermann will be honored with a tribute [4].

Stay tuned for more detailed schedules for ballet, choir, and orchestra performances, which will be announced close to events or found on Ensemble venues' programs [1][3]. The SNE's new season promises to be a journey into new artistic territories, celebrating Sorbian culture and tradition while embracing innovation and diversity.

Other events in the Sorbisches National-Ensemble (SNE)'s season include home-and-garden and lifestyle events, such as the family afternoon celebration of the 50th anniversary of the comic heroes Abrafaxe from the magazine "Mosaik" [4]. There will also be a colourful puppet, music, and dance show titled "Der fabelhafte Garten des Fusselkopf Senfkorn" suitable for children aged 4 and above, scheduled for 31 August 2025 [2]. In addition, sustainable-living enthusiasts can look forward to the dance project "Between Us" (premiere: April 29, 2026), which focuses on innovation and diversity [3].
