Solingen's Güterhallen Hosts a Free Day of Art, Poetry and Performance
Solingen – When the doors of the Güterhallen in Solingen open this Sunday, May 10, at 11:00 AM, visitors can look forward to a vibrant cultural morning filled with art, music, dance, and literature. The historic industrial site in Südpark will once again transform into a lively hub of creativity and connection. Admission is free.
Art to Explore
What makes this cultural morning special is its sprawling program across the entire complex, inviting guests to discover studios and exhibition halls at their own pace. Visitors can stroll through the displays, engage in conversation with artists, and gather fresh impressions at every turn.
In Hall 26, Beatrix Deus presents "Querbeet III"—large-scale abstract works distinguished by bold colors and intricate textures. At Atelier Amann, the exhibition "Drive slow – You never know!" showcases the late Peter Amann (d. 2022), whose art explores mindfulness and the beauty of slowing down.
A unique take on public art comes from Conny Schüssler and Beatrix Deus with "PLATT utem KOPP", where Solingen dialect greets visitors on outdoor signs—on trees and along studio pathways.
Inside KUNSTRAUM Solingen, the KünstlerPack collective offers a behind-the-scenes look at their creative process. Meanwhile, Atelier AndersARTig debuts "Hermaphrodite", a preview of a new series of large-scale ballpoint pen drawings.
Readings and Performances
Beyond the open studios, scheduled highlights add to the experience. At 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, Silke Widenka introduces visitors in her studio to the art of Chinese ink painting.
At 11:30 AM, Beate Kunisch reads poetry and short prose in Conny Schüssler's atelier, complementing the exhibited works.
Simultaneously, Ellen Ern's studio hosts the premiere of "The Rose and the Nightingale", a performance inspired by Oscar Wilde's motifs. Blending dance, double bass, and recitation, it promises a captivating stage experience. A second showing follows at 12:30 PM.
Music and Dance on the Track
Starting at 1:00 PM, the ORPHEAS dance group from Solingen's Greek community brings traditional dances from across Greece to the outdoor track.
Electronic sounds fill the air near Hall 26, courtesy of Solingen musician Crosstech (Sebastian Chrostek), who will perform several sets throughout the day.
The musical program continues in the afternoon: at 3:00 PM, a surprise acoustic set with guitar and vocals awaits visitors at Atelier AndersARTig. At 4:00 PM, Ingo Schleutermann unveils new works alongside the premiere of "Mr. Nervous and the Breakdowns" with a fresh lineup.
Culture and Refreshments
For those needing a break, the lawn in front of the halls offers a place to relax with coffee, cake, cold drinks, and savory snacks.
The cultural morning thrives on its diversity of artistic expression and the direct exchange between creators and audiences. As additional program details may be added before the event, checking the latest schedule is recommended.
