Solingen's Botanical Garden Hosts Annual Seed Swap for Green Thumbs

The Botanical Garden Solingen is hosting its eighth annual Seed Exchange, the main event for local gardeners this Sunday. Open to all, the gathering invites both new and experienced green thumbs to share seeds, tips, and enthusiasm for growing plants. The event runs from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Orangery in the Show Greenhouses.

Attendees are welcome to bring open-pollinated, or heirloom, seeds to swap for new varieties at this event. The exchange encourages discovery and helps preserve traditional plant species. Alongside trading, visitors can take home seeds from the garden's own collection by making a small donation, which supports the foundation's ongoing work.

Expert volunteers Gerdi Krenzke and Verena Kara-Jahn will be on hand to offer guidance. They will share advice on sowing, cultivation, and general plant care. The event aims to create a space for learning, whether someone is just starting out or has years of gardening experience.

The Seed Exchange has become a regular highlight for local growers. While exact numbers from past years aren't publicly available, organisers expect a mix of familiar faces and first-time participants.

The event provides a chance to expand seed collections and gain practical gardening knowledge. Donations from seed takeaways will directly fund the Botanical Garden's projects. Organisers hope the exchange will inspire more people to explore the world of heirloom plants and sustainable growing.
