Sochi's Tormakhov Square nears completion under community-driven project management

Tormakhov Square in Sochi's Lazarevsky District is nearing completion, with final upgrades underway as part of a resident-backed project management initiative. The 2,000-square-metre space, located on Aerodromnaya Street, secured funding after winning a regional initiative competition. Work is now focused on finishing pedestrian paths and landscaping before the planned spring completion.

The project began with a proposal from local residents, gaining support from regional authorities. It received 8.4 million rubles from both municipal and Krasnodar Territory budgets. The first phase saw the entrance area rebuilt, illuminated arches installed, and dedicated zones for children and sports added.

This is the latest in a series of community-driven improvements across Sochi. Over the past five years, 12 public squares and green spaces have been redesigned through similar initiatives. Notable examples include the Central Park upgrade in 2022, funded by the regional budget, and the Adler Riverside revitalisation in 2024, led by local groups with city grants.

The second phase of Tormakhov Square's transformation is now almost finished. Crews are putting the final touches on walkways and planting new greenery. The entire project remains on track for completion by early spring.

Once finished, the square will offer upgraded amenities for residents and visitors. The improvements follow a growing trend of citizen-led revitalisation in Sochi, with over a dozen similar projects completed since 2021. The total investment of 8.4 million rubles reflects both local demand and regional backing for public space upgrades.
