Sicily's 2024 equestrian season kicks off with races and scenic treks across Italy

Sicily's equestrian season is set to begin with a series of rides, races, and trekking events across some of Italy's most striking landscapes. The schedule includes competitions on Mount Etna, expeditions in Aspromonte, and a championship race in Burgio. Organisers have also planned rides beyond Sicily, with events in Liguria and Calabria later this year.

The season opens on February 28 with a guided ride through the Sosio Valley. This will be followed by the Horse Raid Adventure on March 22, the first race of the Sicilian HRA championship standings, held in Burgio.

Later in the spring, from April 24 to 26, riders will traverse the volcanic terrain of Mount Etna and the rugged paths of Nebrodi Park. Those without their own horses can rent mounts locally for the event. Another key date is May 31, when a trekking expedition will take place in the Aspromonte region.

Outside Sicily, two more events are planned. A ride through Aspromonte is scheduled between May and June, while a separate trek will be held in Liguria in August. For further details, organisers have directed inquiries to Andrea Di Giovanni.

The 2024 equestrian calendar spans multiple regions, offering both competitive races and scenic treks. Participants can choose between Sicilian routes or journeys in Calabria and Liguria. Contact information for registration and logistics is available through the event coordinator.
