Selma Lazrak’s *Mediterranea* Collection Blends Cultures at Milan Design Week
Furniture designer Selma Lazrak has spent the last five years crafting unique pieces from her Munich studio. Her work blends cultural influences from the many countries she has called home. This year, she presented her latest collection, Mediterranea, at Milan’s Salone del Mobile.
Lazrak’s journey began with architecture studies in France. After working as a project manager for international firms, she turned her focus to furniture design. Her designs reflect the time she spent living in Morocco, Turkey, France, and the United Arab Emirates.
Her Mediterranea collection, unveiled in 2024, highlights her dedication to traditional craftsmanship. She often uses American walnut and travertine, materials chosen for their durability and beauty. The pieces carry a sense of permanence, shaped by layers of cultural history.
The designer draws heavily from Moroccan and Anatolian architecture. She believes working with stone and hardwood demands patience, humility, and persistence. Each piece undergoes careful refinement before reaching its final form.
Lazrak’s latest work continues to bridge ancient techniques with modern design. The Mediterranea collection stands as proof of her commitment to preserving craftsmanship. Her furniture remains rooted in the traditions of the places she has lived.
