Selecting a Timber Floor for Your Cozy Cabin, From Lighter Shades to Darker Tones

In the heart of the serene wilderness, my tiny cabin stands, a humble abode that exudes a warm, inviting ambiance. The cabin, much like the changing seasons, undergoes a transformation every autumn, welcoming the crisp air and vibrant hues of the season. This year, a special Autumn Fika was held in a little cabin, a gathering that brought together friends and family to savour the flavours of the season.

The cabin, adorned with panelling on the walls and ceiling, offers a cosy and homely atmosphere. The floor, a primed pine floor in ultra protect white or a primed parquet pine floor in ultra protect white, adds to the cabin's rustic charm. However, for those seeking a more traditional Scandinavian aesthetic, Norrlands Trä's Borstat Furugolv flooring might be the perfect choice.

Borstat Furugolv is a type of brushed pine wood flooring that ages beautifully over time. The wood typically darkens or develops a warm patina as it is exposed to light, deepening to amber or honey hues. With prolonged sunlight exposure, it may even turn slightly gray, adding to its unique character.

The surface texture of Borstat Furugolv is slightly rough, giving it a rustic feel. With time and use, this texture can become smoother in high-traffic areas, while less trafficked areas retain more of the original brushed texture. Natural wear from foot traffic, furniture, and cleaning creates a patina that adds character, with small dents, scratches, and marks enhancing the rustic appeal rather than detracting from it.

Like all wood floors, pine expands and contracts with changes in humidity and temperature. Over years, this can lead to small gaps or slight cupping, especially if the installation or acclimatization wasn’t optimal. Regular maintenance (cleaning, oiling, or waxing if recommended) will influence aging, with oiled floors tending to age more gracefully and being easier to refresh by re-oiling.

Norrlands Trä offers Borstat Furugolv in a Dark finish, providing a grey undertone that adds a modern twist to the traditional pine flooring. For those who prefer a lighter shade, Norrlands Trä's Borstat Furugolv is available in Light pine.

In addition to the cabin, Norrlands Trä's Borstat Furugolv flooring can be found in the Summer Cabin and the new Collection from Skandinavi. The collaboration between Norrlands Trä and Skandinavi on a project is yet another testament to the popularity of this traditional yet timeless flooring option.

As we bid farewell to the Autumn Fika and the vibrant hues of the season, the cabin stands, a testament to the beauty of nature and the enduring charm of Borstat Furugolv flooring. With proper care, this flooring will continue to age gracefully, adding character and rustic appeal to interiors for years to come.
