Scouting Magazine Celebrates 100 Years with Digitization Project

Scouting magazine, the official publication of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), is celebrating a century of service. To mark this milestone, the magazine has embarked on a digitization project in partnership with the University of North Texas Digital Projects Unit. The aim is to preserve and share its rich history with a wider audience.

The project, funded by donations to Scouting, will see all 900-plus issues of the magazine digitized. This includes early editions dating back to 1913, the year of the magazine's first publication. The National Scouting Museum is lending its collection to the project, ensuring that no part of Scouting's history is left untold.

Once digitized, the issues will be available online for anyone to view, search, and zoom. This will allow users to delve into stories from early Scouters, providing a unique insight into the BSA's past. The magazine has always aimed to serve BSA's adult leaders and volunteers, and this project is a testament to that commitment.

The digitization of Scouting magazine is a significant step in preserving the BSA's history. With over 100 years of issues set to be available online, the project offers a wealth of information for anyone interested in the organization's past. The initiative is a reminder of how donations to Scouting can provide opportunities not just for young people, but for anyone seeking to understand and engage with the BSA's rich heritage.
