Schloss Hollenegg’s *Vorfall* Exhibition Redefines Metal in Art and Design

Schloss Hollenegg for Design will open its next exhibition, Vorfall, on May 9, 2026. The show will explore metal—its craftsmanship, deep symbolism, and the realities of its production. Over the past decade, the castle has become a key space for emerging artists and designers under the direction of Alice Stori Liechtenstein.

The castle’s transformation began when Stori Liechtenstein took over a decade ago. Instead of expanding, she chose to ‘put down roots’, letting the building’s history and modern creativity blend naturally. Her approach has built a reputation for supporting fresh talent while respecting the site’s heritage.

For Vorfall, six designers and artists have been invited to respond to the castle’s past and its furnishings. The lineup includes Lidewij Edelkoort, Hella Jongerius, Konrad Mayer, Martino Gamper, Sabine Marcelis, and the Austrian collective Studio Besau-Marguerre. Their new works will join the castle’s permanent collection, as is tradition for most exhibited pieces. Each exhibition at Schloss Hollenegg encourages artists to engage with the space itself. The castle’s interiors and stories often inspire the pieces on display. This method has made the venue a unique platform for experimental design.

The May 2026 exhibition will mark another step in the castle’s role as a hub for contemporary art and design. By acquiring most of the works, Schloss Hollenegg ensures its collection continues to grow. The event will also reinforce its commitment to nurturing new voices in art and design.
