Schlehdorf’s nature kindergarten fights for its future with new zoning rules

The Wald- und Wiesenkindergarten (WaWiKi) in Schlehdorf is working to secure its future through a new zoning plan. Founded in 2022, the nature-based nursery has quickly become a beloved part of the village. Now, local authorities are drafting regulations to ensure its facilities meet legal requirements.

The WaWiKi focuses on outdoor learning, encouraging children to explore nature through play and environmental activities. Its approach has made it a popular choice for families in Schlehdorf.

To formalise its operations, the municipality is developing a zoning plan. This will allow essential features like a wood stove and raised garden beds to be legally approved. Currently, no separate planning authority exists for the WaWiKi—responsibility lies with Schlehdorf’s local council or the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district office. The process aims to secure the kindergarten’s long-term presence while maintaining its unique educational model. Without official zoning, certain facilities could face legal challenges, making this step crucial for the nursery’s stability.

Once approved, the zoning plan will let the WaWiKi continue offering its outdoor-focused programmes. The kindergarten’s future will then depend on meeting all legal standards while keeping its community-driven spirit. Families and staff alike await the outcome as the village supports the project’s growth.
