At Sedlmayr Traditional Inn in Munich's Old Town Undergoes a Refresh

After a 13-month renovation, the historic At Sedlmayr traditional inn in Munich's old town has reopened, offering a revitalized dining experience that seamlessly blends tradition with modernity.

The inn, now under the management of Sebastian and Stefan Kuffler, has updated its menu and decor while preserving its historic charm.

A New Dining Experience

Chef Philipp Richter, who honed his skills in Tyrol, has revamped the Sedlmayr menu. The new offerings now provide a refreshed take on traditional Bavarian cuisine, blending classic dishes with modern culinary influences. Emphasis is placed on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients.

New seasonal specials sit alongside beloved staples like Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle), Weisswurst (white sausage), and freshly baked pretzels. The expanded offerings of craft beers and fine regional wines ensure a perfect pairing for each dish.

A Contemporary Touch

The interior of the inn maintains the authentic Bavarian inn atmosphere but with a contemporary touch. Renovated wood paneling and traditional furnishings have been carefully restored or replaced to enhance comfort and style. Improved lighting creates a warm and inviting ambiance.

Subtle modern design elements have been integrated without compromising the historic feel of the space, making it more welcoming for both locals and tourists. The parquet floor and wall cladding are solid light oak, adding to the inn's charming aesthetic.

The private room for up to 14 people is painted in soft sage, preserving the tradition of a green room in every inn. Three cast iron columns support the listed ceiling, filled with concrete for fire protection reasons. Above the round regulars' table, there is an autograph corner.

Preserving History

The inn continues the partnership with Paulaner and the tradition of good hospitality. A large portrait of the legendary actor Walter Sedlmayr, who gave the inn its name, can be found in the inn. The inn has borne the name of its most famous host since 1989.

Between 11:30 AM and 3 PM, there is a daily lunch special, such as a roast chicken filled with dumplings and mixed salad. The round regulars' table in the corner of the inn is still present.

The guests' favorite dish after just a few opening days is braised ox cheeks with mushroom goulash, fluffy dumplings, and hearty gravy. The menu now includes more refined and cosmopolitan dishes, such as cooked beef tongue served with vinaigrette and truffles.

A liter of beer (0.3 L) is available for 4.30 Euro as a suitable accompaniment. The inn's front window on Westenriederstraße can now be fully opened due to the installation of folding sliding elements.

Overall, At Sedlmayr combines tradition and modernity, honoring its history while providing an updated dining experience. Whether you're a local or a tourist, this inn is worth a visit for its refreshed menu and contemporary design that preserves its historic charm.
