Partying the Day Away: Montreal's Unique Morning Raves

Raring to go at the crack of dawn? So are hundreds of Montrealers who flock to LE NINETY + Camas or similar spots for Croissound, a unique daytime dance party.

I was warned - a line forms before 11 a.m., as I found out at 10:15 a.m., with a hundred participants already waiting outside the venue. Lisa Rey, a 27-year-old entrepreneur, and her partner Bassil, a 31-year-old engineer, love a good night's sleep more than a night on the town.

These go-getters discovered that dance mornings were all the rage in cities like Los Angeles and Amsterdam. What Montreal needed, they decided, was a sober, daytime dance party with no alcohol.last February, Lisa took to Instagram to announce her intentions and was quickly inundated with messages from entrepreneurs. Just two weeks later, they held their first event at Cass Café, dubbed "Croissound."

"The line was monstrous!" Lisa recalls. "People waited two hours in the snow. They came in with blue lips."

Since then, the monthly Croissounds have become a draw for crowds. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., electronic music lovers sway to the beats spun by Bassil and other DJs. Cedric Comte, co-founder of LE NINETY + Camas, where today's event is happening, says he's thrilled to be part of an event centered on music, not alcohol.

Marisela Guglietta and Amy Sulbaran, two women in their forties, show up because they've bid farewell to drinking and don't always feel comfortable around inebriated people. As if they're not on the same wavelength, they say.

All locations for Croissounds have alcohol permits, but the events are alcohol-free – a choice designed to minimize the risk of excess. Lisa points out that people come for the music, companionship, or to make new connections, rather than to drink.

Mathilde and Delphine Trépanier, a mother-daughter duo, attend to enjoy some quality time. Despite the diverse ages in attendance, the event attracts people of all generations. In fact, it even drew two grandmas glued to the DJ during a previous event!

For fun, the events are organized, and they're free, so people can come no matter their means. Money spent at the café goes directly to the host venue, while partnerships with popular establishments like Le Central help promote the events and expand their reach.

As the event officially kicks off, the line stretches out for about 150 meters, proving that Croissound has satisfied Montrealers' thirst for unique cultural experiences, even during the day. Skip the late nights and early hangovers – dance the day away at Croissound!
