Sandcat Ufuk Resides at Green Zoo Now
Ufuk the Arabian Sand Cat Adapts to His New Home at Green Zoo, Wuppertal
Ufuk, an Arabian sand cat, has recently found a new home at the Green Zoo (Grünen Zoo) in Wuppertal, Germany. Born on June 16, 2024, at Zoo Berlin, Ufuk was transferred to his new residence and is currently acclimating to his indoor facilities.
Ufik's fur is sand-colored, providing excellent camouflage in the stony and sandy deserts that are the sand cats' natural habitats, originating from the Arabian Peninsula. As a solitary creature, Ufuk is currently living alone in his enclosure, but the zoo has future plans to introduce a female sand cat to the Green Zoo to restart breeding of this small wild cat, aiming to support the conservation of this unique species.
At present, the Small Cats House remains temporarily closed to visitors while Ufuk settles in. Once he has adjusted well, Ufuk will be visible to the public and will be able to explore the outdoor facilities of the Small Cats House. The Small Cats House is expected to reopen to the public after Ufuk has settled in.
In the long term, the zoo plans to introduce a female sand cat to Ufik's enclosure for breeding purposes. This move will allow visitors to observe these fascinating creatures in an expanded outdoor habitat.
Ufuk is an Arabian sand cat that was born at the Berlin Zoo and has now made his way to Wuppertal, Germany. He is adapting to his new surroundings and is being given time to familiarize himself with his indoor facilities before being visible to the public. The Green Zoo is excited to welcome Ufuk and is looking forward to his eventual introduction to the public and the potential future breeding of this rare and fascinating species.
