Sabres’ Pride Night logo by local artist Adam Weekley celebrates LGBTQIA+ community
A new Buffalo Sabres logo designed by local artist Adam Weekley will take centre stage at the team’s Pride Night on 6 January 2023. The artwork, part of the club’s Community Artist Series, features a buffalo charging through crossed sabres draped in pride flags. The design will appear on special practice jerseys worn by players and later auctioned for charity.
Weekley, originally from Parkersburg, West Virginia, has called Buffalo home for over 20 years. He arrived in 2001 to study at the University at Buffalo and has since become an active member of the city’s art scene. His latest work marks the second collaboration in the Sabres’ Community Artist Series with the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.
The logo’s vibrant design includes a disco ball backdrop and sabres wrapped in rainbow colours. Weekley wanted the piece to resonate broadly while holding special significance for the LGBTQIA+ community. He has praised Buffalo’s inclusive and welcoming creative environment as a key influence on his work.
The jerseys bearing the logo will be worn during warm-ups at the Pride Night game. After the match, they will be auctioned, with all proceeds supporting local LGBTQIA+ organisations. Fans can also buy additional merchandise featuring the design at the Sabres Store on the night.
The auctioned jerseys and related sales will directly fund LGBTQIA+ causes in the region. Weekley’s artwork will remain on display at KeyBank Center, offering lasting visibility for the community. The event highlights the Sabres’ ongoing partnership with local artists and advocacy groups.
