Saarland's 2026 Picobello cleanup shatters volunteer records with 61,000 participants

Saarland's annual picobello litter cleanup campaign has broken records in 2026. Over 61,000 volunteers registered this year, making it the largest turnout yet. The event, held every March, saw tens of thousands—including children and young adults—pitching in to tidy up public spaces across the region. In St. Ingbert, teams gathered early at the parking lot near Blau. Local council members, the THW youth group, and residents split into zones, equipped with gloves, trash bags, and grabber tools. For two hours, they scoured central areas, clearing illegal dumping and scattered waste.

The youth fire brigade extended the effort into the afternoon, tackling additional spots. Their work added to the piles of rubbish collected by other groups. District leader Irene Kaiser later thanked all participants, highlighting their role in keeping the city clean. By the end of the day, countless bags of trash had been filled. The city's public works department will now collect the waste from designated points next week.

The 2026 picobello campaign in Saarland set a new benchmark with more than 61,000 volunteers. St. Ingbert's efforts alone involved multiple groups, from council members to young fire brigade recruits. The collected litter will be removed by the city, ensuring cleaner streets and public areas.
