Operations of the water organ and footboats at DFG Saarbrücken temporarily halted; awaiting further updates

Saarbrücken's water organ and footboats have been temporarily shut down; no operation until further notice from DFG.

In the scenic Deutsch-Französischen Garden (DFG) of Saarbrücken, a temporary halt of the water organ and pedal boat activities has been declared. The city council has attributed this to both technical and ecological reasons.

The water organ, a popular attraction in the garden, is currently out of service due to a technical malfunction. Specifically, the control unit has burned out and needs to be replaced.

On the ecological front, extensive nature conservation regulations must be observed for Deutschmühlenweiher, the natural body of water in the garden. The city has not yet specified a timeline for when the water organ and pedal boat operations will resume, but they have confirmed that they are taking steps to address these issues.

The suspension of the pedal boat operation is due to waterweed blocking the propulsion system. The stems and leaves of this aquatic plant have made it impossible for passengers to move forward. The city, along with the Office for Urban Greenery and Cemeteries, and the State Office for Environmental and Occupational Safety (LUA), are collaborating to control the spread of waterweed. The measures to control aquatic plants in Deutschmühlenweiher are expected to last until 2025.

Repair work on the water organ is already underway, and it is anticipated that these repairs will take several weeks to complete. As for the pedal boat operations, no alternative arrangements for entertainment or transportation have been mentioned.

The city of Seligenstadt is responsible for the measures to control aquatic plants in Deutschmühlenweiher, and these measures are expected to last until 2025. The city of Saarbrücken is also adhering to extensive nature conservation regulations while addressing both technical and ecological issues in the garden.

This temporary closure is a reminder of the delicate balance between human enjoyment and nature conservation. As we wait for the return of these beloved attractions, let's appreciate the beauty of Deutsch-Französischen Garden and the efforts being made to protect it.
