Russia's Black Sea coast becomes a hotspot for intimate beach weddings
Weddings along Russia's Black Sea coast have surged in popularity over the past five years. Resorts in the Kuban region, including Anapa, Gelendzhik and Tuapse, now attract far more couples than before. The shift follows a boom in domestic tourism, new luxury venues and rising demand for seaside celebrations.
Before 2021, a wedding for 25–30 guests in Kuban cost around 350,000 rubles ($3,900). Today, the same event averages 1.2–1.5 million rubles ($13,300–16,600). Higher prices stem from inflation in services, materials and venue bookings.
To manage expenses, many couples now split their celebrations. A simple legal ceremony comes first, followed by a smaller gathering by the sea. This approach also blends the wedding with a family holiday, offering both a meaningful event and a relaxed break.
The trend reflects broader changes in wedding culture. Large, lavish receptions have given way to intimate gatherings for close friends and family. Venues in Sochi, Gelendzhik and Anapa remain top choices, with new five-star hotels and event spaces catering to the demand. Modern couples increasingly mix tradition with travel, creating more flexible and personal experiences.
The rise in Kuban's wedding industry mirrors wider shifts in Russian tourism and spending. Smaller, seaside ceremonies now dominate, driven by cost concerns and a preference for intimate celebrations. With luxury resorts expanding, the region's appeal as a wedding destination is likely to grow further.
