Rüsselsheim’s Bold Plan to Fight Climate Change by 2026
Rüsselsheim am Main is taking steps to address climate change challenges with a new adaptation strategy. The city administration is leading the development of this concept, which is expected to be finalised by early 2026. Residents have already shared their priorities, with calls for more greenery and better protection against extreme weather.
The city has been gathering input from the public, receiving 129 contributions on climate adaptation. Many residents pushed for increased green spaces, while others suggested traffic improvements, de-sealing surfaces, water features, and green roofs or facades. The administration is now reviewing these ideas, incorporating relevant ones into the plan and passing others to the appropriate departments.
The climate adaptation concept remains a work in progress, with no exact release date beyond the early 2026 target. Once completed, it will guide future projects to protect the city from heatwaves, heavy rainfall, and other climate-related challenges. The administration continues to engage with residents as the plan takes shape.
