Ruhr’s Open Garden Day invites visitors into private green havens this summer

The IGA Metropole Ruhr 2027 is preparing for its upcoming events. On June 13-14 and September 12-13, the region will host Open Garden Day, inviting visitors to explore private green spaces. Meanwhile, advance tickets for the horticultural exhibition go on sale from April 23, 2026, alongside special construction site tours and public events.

Open Garden Day will see residents across the Ruhr region opening their private gardens to the public. Enthusiasts will share their gardening passions, offering a glimpse into unique green oases on two weekends: June 13-14 and September 12-13.

Before that, the IGA will launch advance ticket sales on April 23, 2026. The same day, construction site tours and special events will take place at the Future Gardens, with Duisburg serving as the main location. Fabienne Willmann, responsible for exhibition content in Dortmund’s Zukunftsgarten, will oversee part of the IGA 2027 horticulture display in the Ruhr area. The initiative aims to connect communities through gardening while showcasing the progress of the upcoming IGA exhibition. Visitors can explore both private gardens and the developing Future Gardens sites during these events.

The IGA’s Open Garden Day will highlight local gardening culture on two weekends this year. With ticket sales starting in April and construction tours planned, the event offers early access to the IGA 2027 exhibition’s development. Residents and organisers are preparing to welcome visitors to green spaces across the Ruhr region.
