Romania's Village Museum Nights scheduled for September

The third edition of the 'Night of Museums in Villages' is set to illuminate Romania's rural areas on September 6, 2025. This unique event, organized by the Da' De Ce Association, invites all museums and collections in rural regions to participate.

This year's edition promises a series of engaging activities, aimed at celebrating and preserving the rich cultural heritage of Romania's villages. Entry to the event will be free, making it accessible to all.

One of the highlights of the event will be the development of five living cultural ecosystems in rural areas. These ecosystems will be created through a combination of exhibitions, workshops, and community projects. For instance, in Baita, Bihor County, the permanent exhibition of the Teacher's Museum will be rethought with local involvement, using multimedia elements and contemporary museographic techniques.

In Crasna and Marin, traditional interiors and portraits will be documented and digitally archived as part of a community campaign dedicated to saving authentic households. Similarly, in Enisala and a second locality in Tulcea County, children from disadvantaged backgrounds will explore local collections through creative workshops.

The event will also offer opportunities for learning and development. A training program in museum studies will be conducted in Felmer and Sercaia, Tara Fagarasului, for the managers of rural collections and for lobbying in support of a museum collection seeking a new local administrator.

Moreover, a sociological study on the relationship between village museums and the community, combined with educational workshops and participatory mappings, will take place in Densus and Pesteana, Tara Hategului Geopark, Hunedoara County.

The program includes a variety of activities, such as exhibitions, guided tours, workshops, meetings with artisans, and nighttime events held in unconventional spaces. Visitors can discover living history, local collections, village stories, and meet the people who carry them forward during the event.

The Night of Museums in Villages is not just an event, but a platform for promoting cultural, historical, and touristic programs. This year's edition is specifically supported by the Foundation for the Fortification Churches (Stiftung Kirchenburgen), with Cristian Cismaru as the managing director.

So, mark your calendars for September 6, 2025, and join us in celebrating Romania's rural heritage. The Night of Museums in Villages promises to be an unforgettable journey through time and tradition.
