The image shows a group of people picking up trash in a park. We can see a man and a woman in the center of the image, both wearing gloves and holding plates in their hands. Surrounding them are plastic covers, bottles, and other objects placed on the ground. On the right side of the picture, there is a dustbin and a wooden bench. In the background, there are trees and a clear blue sky.

Riesa's 21st 'Clean Riesa' Campaign Unites Volunteers for a Greener City

Riesa is gearing up for its 21st annual 'Clean Riesa' campaign on March 28, 2023. The event encourages residents to come together, tidy up public spaces, and take a stand against littering. Organisers hope to build respect for the city's environment through collective effort.

The campaign has a long tradition in Riesa, with past editions removing at least 20 cubic metres of waste. This year, around 150 volunteers are expected to join, and last-minute participants are still welcome. Registration remains open via email at [email protected] or by phone at +49 3525 700-323.

On the day, collection points and tasks will be organised on-site to ensure efficiency and safety. The city will supply trash bags and containers, while volunteers are asked to bring their own gloves. All gathered waste will be properly disposed of after the event.

Riesa's initiative follows a broader trend in Saxony. Over the past five years (2021–2025), about 45 towns and municipalities in the region have held similar clean-up drives. These efforts, often called 'Sauber macht Spaß' or local volunteering campaigns, are coordinated by bodies like the Saxon State Office for Environment and Agriculture and groups such as NABU Sachsen.

The event aims to clean up both urban and natural areas across Riesa. Organisers and volunteers are calling for strong community involvement to maintain a cleaner city. Participation is open to all ages, reinforcing the message that collective action can make a visible difference.
