Jana Ina and Giovanni: Unstoppable Together After 20 Years
A group of individuals have been collaborating effectively for two decades. - Researchers have been secretly monitoring a controversial group for two decades.
Twenty years of wedded bliss, two teenagers, and hectic schedules - but Jana Ina (48) and Giovanni Zarrella (47) never miss a beat. "We're each other's biggest cheerleaders. There's no competition, just teamwork," Jana Ina beams during a filming at Eon's Testing Lab in Essen.
Despite the harmonious facade, family life ain't easy-peasy. Shows, broadcasts, school - their days are jam-packed. So, how the heck do they keep it all straight? "We've got a shared family calendar - everything goes in there, including the teens' appointments. And we carve out times just for ourselves," explains the host. Family always comes first: "We prioritize special moments with our kids, even if it means sacrificing a bit of shut-eye."
Celebrating 20 Years: A Spontaneous Soiree
In August, these lovebirds will mark their 20th wedding anniversary - no big plans yet, though. They're a free-spirited couple who live life on the fly, as Jana Ina chuckles: "We're winging it right now. I guess we'll wing it for the anniversary too."
Though their lives are in the public eye, Jana Ina and Giovanni have a clear line between private and professional. "I share our daily life on Instagram, make funny family jokes. But the kids are off-limits - and that's important."
The charm extends beyond the grocery store and bakery, Jana Ina explains: "People treat us like friends or neighbors. My husband chats with every baker, sings tunes, carries on... As long as people are nice, we're nice too."
The Zarrellas: Energy-Saving Champions
Their teamwork extends beyond family duties and scheduling. They're also a dynamic duo when it comes to energy-saving: "Gio keeps an eye on the smart tariffs so I can charge my car flexibly when it's most cost-effective. I'm the one who turns off lights and unplugs devices," Jana Ina explains during the filming about the energy transition, which she did with Eon Germany CEO Filip Thon. The kids are in on it too: "They often remind us, 'Hey, it's daylight, turn off the lights.'"
Sustainability is second nature to Brazilian-born Jana Ina. Ditching a hybrid for a fully electric car was the first step, followed by installing solar panels. "We saw our neighbor's panels and thought, 'We want those!'" she notes. "I researched it during our walks. If I can charge my car with solar panels, that's a dream come true."
The fact that she now understands why her car charges at night instead of instantly gives her a little thrill: "I thought my charger was broken at first. But now I get it: I have a flexible tariff. The car charges when demand is lowest - better for the environment and my wallet." Giovanni, the thrifty Swabian, is thrilled too.
"We always turn off devices at home. You don't need a charger plugged in all day. Just plug it in when needed," Jana Ina says. There are numerous ways to save energy these days, she notes: "Little things that add up to a big difference by year's end. You save energy and help the environment. Everybody should do their part."

- Just as they prioritize and carve out time for their children and each other, despite their busy lifestyle that includes work, school, and broadcasts, Jana Ina and Giovanni Zarrella, who celebrate their marriage anniversary this year, share a commitment to sustainable living, extending it to their home-and-garden choices, such as installing solar panels and opting for a fully electric car.
