Repeating Showing: 'Life is Sweet and Delicious'

In the heart of Aichi prefecture, Japan, lives a renowned architect named Shuichi Tsubata and his wife, Hideko. The couple resides in a humble, one-storied house nestled within the woods, a stark contrast to the urban landscape that dominates much of modern Japan.

Fifty years ago, Shuichi Tsubata, with a vision for harmonious living, left his work and purchased land in a newly established town. However, his idea for houses that could coexist with nature was met with resistance during the economic-first policy era, and houses far from nature were built instead.

Undeterred, Shuichi and Hideko decided to grow their own food and woods on their land, slowly and steadily creating a self-sustaining life. Their journey is the focus of the documentary, "Journey with the Gods: The Rebuilding of Ise Jingu Shrine," produced by Tokai TV and directed by Kenshi Fushihara.

The documentary, unfortunately, does not seem to be directly related to the rebuilding of the Ise Jingu Shrine, a highly significant Shinto shrine in Japan, dedicated to the sun goddess Amaterasu Omikami. The shrine is famously rebuilt every 20 years in a ritual called Shikinen Sengu, involving traditional Japanese carpentry and craftsmanship.

Shuichi Tsubata's life and work, however, remain somewhat enigmatic. While there are no detailed or verified public records about his involvement in the rebuilding of Ise Jingu Shrine, it is possible that he may have been involved in this process. For a more comprehensive understanding of Shuichi Tsubata and his work, it is recommended to consult specialized film databases, Japanese architecture and cultural heritage resources, or directly check platforms hosting the documentary or professional architectural organizations for comprehensive profiles on Shuichi Tsubata.

The event presented by The Japan Foundation Los Angeles, titled "Journey with the Gods: The Rebuilding of Ise Jingu Shrine," is no longer accepting registrations. The event is supported by the website Los Angeles.

Shuichi Tsubata, having a vision for a harmonious lifestyle, transformed his land into a self-sustaining home-and-garden, cultivating food and trees. Amidst this organic design, he might have also delved into gardening and incorporated elements of it within his architectural creations, crafting a unique lifestyle that coexisted with nature.
