Reopening of Cult-Hostel in Tegernsee's Beer Garden
In the heart of Bad Wiessee, Bavaria, the historic Gasthof zur Post has reopened its doors, offering a blend of traditional dishes with modern interpretations that cater to a diverse clientele.
The new innkeepers, Steffen and Bettina Seibert, have taken the reins of this iconic establishment, which is now more centrally located for easier staff access. The kitchen and taproom have been redesigned to provide a more inviting atmosphere, with the kitchen moving to a more central position.
The Seiberts, who became aware of the Gasthof zur Post in 2021, aim to have the business stabilized by the Christmas season. The renovation, which lasted almost two years and cost around 23 million euros, has not been a simple rebuild of the historic inn. Instead, it has been a thoughtful restoration that preserves its charm while incorporating modern amenities.
The renovation includes a larger beer garden, shaded by chestnut trees, that can currently seat around 200 guests. By the end of September, the hall will be completed, increasing the seating capacity to accommodate approximately 350 guests.
The Gasthof zur Post is renowned as the town center of Bad Wiessee, and it continues to be a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. The Aying brewery is now the landlord of the Gasthof zur Post, ensuring a steady supply of quality beer.
The menu features traditional dishes with a contemporary twist, such as a vegan "Teriyaki Eggplant" and a "Superfood Salad," alongside classic options like roast pork for 16.90 euros and boiled beef for 18.90 euros.
Despite the excitement surrounding the reopening, the Gasthof zur Post is currently understaffed. Some employees have signed contracts but have not shown up for work, posing challenges for the Seiberts as they manage the full load "superbly" with 43 employees. The Seiberts aim to have around 60 employees by mid-September.
The Mayor of Bad Wiessee, Kuhn, hopes for many guests, good beer sales, and happy customers at the Gasthof zur Post. As the renovation and reopening process continues, the Gasthof zur Post remains a beacon of hospitality in Bad Wiessee, Bavaria.
