Renovation of the gymnasium at Ludwig-Erhard vocational college delayed
The renovation of the gymnasium at Ludwig-Erhard-Berufskolleg in Münster has faced delays. Originally planned for an earlier completion, the project will now finish in April 2026. The city is investing €2.98 million to modernise the 1978 facility with upgraded equipment and improved energy efficiency.
The gymnasium, built in 1978, is undergoing a major overhaul to meet modern standards. The renovation includes a full roof replacement, new photovoltaic panels, and upgraded sports facilities. These changes will cut annual CO₂ emissions by at least 38.1 metric tons.
Work was delayed due to supply shortages, contractor disruptions, and unexpected hazardous material removal. Additional structural and technical upgrades also contributed to the postponement. The project now aims for completion by the 2026 Easter holidays, with full availability from April 13, 2026. Inside, the gym will feature motorised retractable handball goals and electrically operated basketball hoops. New wooden wall panelling, resurfaced sports flooring, and reinforced impact protection will also be installed. The upgrades focus on safety, functionality, and a refreshed appearance.
The €2.98 million investment will transform the gymnasium into a modern, energy-efficient space. Once finished, the facility will offer improved sports equipment and reduced environmental impact. Students and staff at Ludwig-Erhard-Berufskolleg will gain access to the upgraded gym by mid-April 2026.
