A New Era of Regional Cooperation: LAUNCH Unveils Strategic Plan for North Alabama's Future

After a decade of fostering collaboration across North Alabama, the LAUNCH Regional Partnership has unveiled a new strategic plan to guide the region's development in the coming years. The plan, developed with the University of North Alabama's leadership and based on extensive data analysis, promotes "intentional regionalism" to enhance coordination and shared problem-solving across communities.

The new strategic plan, unveiled at the 7th annual State of the Region luncheon, aims to address key challenges such as workforce development, transportation, childcare, housing, and land use planning by fostering unified leadership and cross-sector collaboration. The plan builds upon LAUNCH’s pillars of workforce development, entrepreneurship, and land use planning, with goals to strengthen economic alignment and policy coherence region-wide.

The initiative covers Colbert, DeKalb, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Marshall, and Morgan counties. Previous successes under LAUNCH include the creation of the Singing River Trail, a 220-mile greenway project, the completion of a regional workforce study, and the Launch Tank entrepreneurial pitch competition. Specific projects like upgrades to the Singing River Trail are underway, including trail construction, signage, an interactive online map, and augmented reality features to boost community engagement.

The plan calls for a dedicated Executive Director and a fully representative Board of Directors, signaling a transition from a volunteer-driven model to a more formalized leadership structure. Governance updates are already underway to match the scale and scope of the organization's growing impact.

The strategic plan seeks to ensure long-term competitiveness for North Alabama by providing a pathway for structure, leadership, and vision. It aims to build on LAUNCH's past successes and move towards a unified regional identity. The new strategic plan represents a new era of intentional regionalism in North Alabama, speaking with one voice and planning with shared purpose.

The Huntsville Committee of 100, the original idea for LAUNCH, emphasized the importance of cooperation for North Alabama's success. As LAUNCH enters its second decade, the message is clear: North Alabama's future will be built together.
