Regensburg's Revamped Main Station Square Reopens With Family Fun
Regensburg's main station square, Bahnhofplatz, has reopened after a redesign, transforming into a modern, inviting space with a new entrance. The opening event, attended by Mayor Gertrud Maltz-Schwarzfischer and Walter Reichenberger, head of the station management, featured a family-friendly program with face painting, a bouncy castle, ice cream, and sidewalk chalk. A city information stand and a police display with DIY buttons and a motorcycle added to the festivities.
The revamped square, designed by AFF Architekten, is now traffic-calmed and more inviting, serving as a new gateway to the city. DB InfraGO AG contributed to the celebrations with a wheel of fortune offering city giveaways and collecting donations for the station's end-of-life mission. The volunteer police also participated, engaging with visitors and showcasing their work.
The opening event was a collaborative effort between 'Regensburg mobile' exhibition and the city, ensuring a fun and welcoming atmosphere for all attendees.
