Regensburg’s 2026 Cultural Theme Challenges Society Through Art and Awareness
The Regensburg District Cultural Office has launched a call for proposals under its 2026 cultural theme, bewusst.sein (‘Awareness’). Organisers can now submit event ideas that explore deeper questions about society, values, and human consciousness. The deadline for applications is February 10, 2026.
The theme was announced by Cultural Officer Dr. Thomas Feuerer at the LandKulturForum in December 2025. It builds on last year’s focus, Spaces to Play, by shifting attention to the role of awareness in art and culture. The programme aims to go beyond entertainment, encouraging reflection on freedom, democracy, and prosperity.
Each applicant may propose up to three events: one general submission, one for children and youth, and one centred on inclusion. All events must take place after April 22, 2026, within the Regensburg district. Proposals can be submitted online via the form at www.landkreiskultur.de. The office expects the selected events to draw regional interest. No specific artists or groups have yet been named in connection with the theme.
The 2026 programme will feature events that challenge audiences to think critically about culture’s role in society. Successful applicants will be notified after the February 10 deadline. Their events will form part of the district’s official cultural calendar for the year.
